Eau was a nice little project. The director drew up each pose, text and illustration by hand and gave me a storyboard. I scanned these and then started the main production phase. She just wanted the still poses to be simply stitched together into a 30 second clip. That was way too easy, so I insisted that we add something to make it more atmospheric. I wanted to add the line shake, which I couldn't do in the Aki Honban project. To get the line shake, I used a Photoshop effect on each drawing/cell she gave me and then ran through the same effect on a copy of each original drawing with negative value settings on the effect to get the opposite waves in the lines. For the very first cut, where the girl has her hands under her chin, I took the two opposite wavy-lined cells into After Effects and had one cell run for 4 frames and then switch to the other cell for 4 frames. This I looped to the length of time needed for that shot. So when played, you get the shake, which is made of only two different cells looped over and over atop each other. That process was reapeated on each shot for the entire 30 seconds of the clip. |
