This beautiful Show Opener was really nice and easy. I was asked to make something that would reflect Europe, but make it feminine enough for the audience. So, I decided to have a butterfly lazily flying though different European settings.

I grabbed a few pictures off of Image CDs we had available for just such things and then stitched them into the 30 second set time sequence for the opening.

After that was done, I drew 2D wings in Photoshop and took those into MAYA and attached them to my simple butterfly body. I had the wings animated with a MEL script to achieve the random loop of motion. The Camera NEVER MOVES though. I had the butterfly hanging, beating its wings, just in front of the camera and had the whole body rotating on its XYZ axis.

Once rendered I loaded it into AfterEffects and moved the butterfly around to accommodate the images I had previously laid down. I had to resize both the Images and the Butterfly to match movements.
